Tragedy strikes on board the Annabelle, bound from England to America, and young Susan and Tom Prescott are left without their mother. Unable to pay their passage, Tom is forced into indentured servanthood, where he meets Josh Morris, whose life has been transformed by the revivalist preacher George Whitefield. Tom is fascinated by the printer Benjamin Franklin’s work and hopes someday to learn from him. Neither young man has any idea how powerful a role these men will play in the Great Awakening sweeping across America, in making public the depth of the horrors of slavery, in starting an orphanage in Georgia, or in bringing vicious anti-revivalists to justice.
