One quiet afternoon Cassy Knight, a mother of four, is shocked to get a phone call from school. Her eight-­year-­old son, Jeremy, is accused of of starting a fight—and even has a nice-­sized shiner to vouch for it. He says he was tired of being called “stupid” over and over by the school bully. Jeremy turns to stare out the window, but Cassy sees a tear spill over and make a trail down his cheek.
