As the process developed one of my students asked me, ‘Why is it that kids have to write stories, when teachers don’t have to?’ I accepted the challenge, went home, and wrote the prologue of the novel as a model. My effort had an unexpected result. The students demanded to know what happened next.  I was forced, by their response, to continue the plot. I have always been fascinated with the study of history so through this novel, I was able to teach reading, writing, and historical research skills.” Armand Matte has published a number of articles in consumer and educational magazines and continues to develop ideas for future novels. His interests include physical fitness, gardening, puttering in the workshop, and reading.
