Keith went to Cambodia on a medical mission in 2001 and has returned two times since. There he learned of the plight of girls in that country.
“Many streets are lined with brothels, home to girls in their teens, who often have been kidnapped. I wrote A Time to Mourn, A Time to Dance to help people understand.” He also learned how foreign and Cambodian Christians work to alleviate the plight of these girls. “One such project was a school where the young people achieved literacy and, at the same time, learned traditional Khmer dance. And the idea for the character of Devi was born.”
Dr. McDonald also established “The Salt of the Earth” program through The Cambodian Medical Mission, a division of Global Connection International.
