 Betty Gaard

Betty has written two other novels for teens: The Theft and Jericho Ride (Journey Books, Bob Jones University Press). She’s had numerous short stories and articles printed in The Young Salvationist, Boys’ Quest, and Hopscotch.
“The concept of The Ocher Flask came to mind after watching a chemistry demonstration at my children’s Christian school,” Betty says. “The teacher used it not only as a science experiment but as an object lesson to reveal to students how a murky testimony fails to let Jesus shine through our lives.” Betty graduated from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama, with a BS in home economics and a minor in English. After teaching home economics in Dallas, GA, for five years, she married her husband, Marshall, and moved to Lake County Florida, where they live today. They have three grown children.

Matt Stone’s got a problem... and it has everything to do with his high school graduation.

Matt has to dual-enroll during the summer after his junior year in order to graduate with his senior class. But things aren’t going as planned.

When he arrives on the college campus, he doesn’t get the financial help he’d expected...and odd jobs aren’t paying the bill. Then there’s the chemistry instructor, who definitely doesn’t like dual-enrolled students. And Matt thinks his roommate is involved in something questionable.

Should Matt say something? Or just let things ride? All of a sudden, his life seems as murky as the ocher flask in his failed chemistry experiment.
