Obscurity Unveiled

The Bible is filled with colorful, main actors—famous prophets, kings, disciples, and heroes, like David, Paul, Jonah, and Peter.

But behind them, in the obscure shadows, are the stage props and background people…men and women you might not notice because they seem so ordinary or unimportant.

Yet when the spotlight of God’s transforming power and love touches them, the veil of obscurity is lifted, and His love, redeeming character, grace, and mercy are revealed to all. (Includes questions for reflection or group discussion)

Audra Jo Baumgarth

Audra lives in Kona, Hawaii. Fifty years in a wheelchair (polio) has proven God’s faithfulness on a daily basis. Life has been full with a long, happy marriage, two children, her own business, and missionary work with Youth With A Mission (YWAM).

Her full, active life has included skiing in the Junior Nationals and polio in 1952, community service (school board, county chairman of March of Dimes), and extensive travel. She was portrayed in the movie The Other Side of the Mountain about her skiing buddy, Jill Kinmont Boothe. Audra’s husband, Lee, was a consultant for the movie and also portrayed himself in his real-life role as Jill’s physical therapist.

Audra now devotes her energies to writing. An article, “I Left My Heart and Wheels” published in The American Physical Therapy Journal, described their work and life in a welfare orphanage for handicapped children in Chungsha, China.

“Nameless-nondescript people are important to God,” says Audra. Obscurity Unveiled portrays spiritually heartwarming, dramatic, and sometimes humorous scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
